HEALING INVISIBLE WOUNDS
Therapy is a Process
Therapy is a process of healing invisible wounds, talking about broken hearts, shedding silent tears and rebuilding the bridges to trust again. Mental anguish and emotional pain are as real as physical pain and needs to be addressed and acknowledged in order to heal. We often are forced to keep our pain a secret due to the stigma attached.
It is important to honor and have empathy for the emotional wounds in order to start the healing process. Damage is done when we fail to listen, mal-adaptive coping skills are established as defense mechanisms that keep us from truly feeling and living our lives.
Therapy involves untangling the complex web of intense dysfunctional emotions that get felt as constant and chronic anger or hurt. Therapy involves feeling safe to have honest open conversations, finding the language to talk about our intense emotions, psycho-education and understanding about how and why the emotions impact our mental well-being, honoring inner strengths, adding healthy coping skills. This results in finding resiliency and courage to engage in active problem solving and solution focused choices to live a life full of what brings us joy.
